In the midst of swapping my Dual G5 for the Mac Pro that Macworld so kindly decided to provide for my use (read my three-part hands-on report at macworld.com), I ran into a bit of an issue: I have an external DVD burner that I wanted to position on top of the G5. However, the front handle on the G5's case prevented the burner's drawer from opening. What I needed was some sort of spacer to lift the burner up above the handles.
After digging around in the office for a bit, I found the perfect solution:

That's right--a leftover copy of my book, Mac OS X Power Hound: Panther Edition. Now I happen to know that there are only many thousands of copies left at Amazon, so if you own a G5 and you've been trying to find that ideal spacer on which to place an external CD-R or DVD-R, look no further! And even though the book only covers up through 10.3, most of the tips will still work on 10.4, should you happen to actually want to read the thing. Of course, you'll be on your own as to figuring out which work and which don't, but heck, that's half the fun!
Act now, and give the official Cheese Grater Chassis Spacer Book to all your G5- and Mac-Pro-owning friends for Christmas! That's right, this book is Universal; it works equally as well on the new Intel-powered Mac Pros as it does on the older Power PC G5 machines!
(Note: This is completely tongue-in-cheek, of course. I just found it funny that the book was exactly the right height for the job, and it clearly wasn't doing me any good sitting on the shelf.)
Are they going to make you call the next edition "Power Hound" as well? What does that even mean? I mean, I don't think I've ever even seen a non-powered hound. So…
Well, based on the sales of the last title, I don't expect there will be another, at least not from O'Reilly. For the record, the author (that'd be me) had no say in the titling of the book, and I thought the title of the first one (Mac OS X Hints) was just about perfect ... and we'll just leave it at that :).

well, at 24.95, Your Powerhound book is still less expensive than the G5 Roof (http://tinyurl.com/yd6fto), but not nearly as snazzy.
Heh..I use that exact same book to raise my keyboard to the right height at my Power PC G5 workstation. And when I need to look something up, which the author (that would be you) presumably doesn't have to do, it's always handy. Nice to know it would serve me well as case spacer, too. Sure, the G5 Roof might be snazzier, but it's not nearly as functional as your book: three, three, three tools in one!
Well, the book was great, even though the title was terrible. I'm sorry to hear it didn't sell well.
In a world where there are tons of beginner books and tons of uber-geek books, your books hit the sweet spot for us non-beginners trying to make our way to uber-geekdom -- or just get a little more out of the computer.
I use my PS2 as a functional spacer [fits perfectly on top of my G5] because I connect it through my EyeTV USB Gizmo. Then I put my new Dual Layer DVD+RW burner on top like you have done.
What's nice about having the PS2 connect through the EyeTV is I get another DVD player but with an NTSC signal. This is great for testing my DVD interfaces before I release a final version.
